　　【譯文】在澳大利亞，出于人口老齡化、延長壽命技術(shù)和公眾態(tài)度的變化等原因，其他的州也在考慮通過類似的法律來解決安樂死的問題。

　　【析句】這個(gè)句子的主體結(jié)構(gòu)是other states are going to consider making a similar law to deal with euthanasia。句首的In Australia是地點(diǎn)狀語，后面跟了一個(gè)定語從句(where an aging population, life-extending technology and changing community attitudes have all played their part)，進(jìn)一步解釋Australia的具體情況。

　　【講詞】play a part意為“發(fā)揮或起到作用”。The US must play its part in abolishing tariffs or the earth summit will fail.(美國必須采取行動(dòng)廢除關(guān)稅，否則地球峰會(huì)就將失敗。)France is ready to play its part in enhancing India's nuclear status.(法國正準(zhǔn)備盡力加強(qiáng)印度的核地位。)

　　【析句】注意句子的主干是the NT Rights of Terminally I’ll law means，全句的賓語是he can get on with living without the haunting fear of his suffering。For Lloyd Nickson,a 54-year-old Darwin resident suffering from lung cancer作句子的狀語，其中a 54-year-old Darwin resident suffering from lung cancer是Lloyd Nickson的同位語。句末的a terrifying death from his breathing condition是his suffering的同位語。

　　【講詞】haunt除了表示“鬧鬼”之外，常用的詞義有“困惑;經(jīng)常光顧”。I was haunted by the idea that she might die any time.(我的心頭老是想到她隨時(shí)都會(huì)死去。)I was haunted by his last words to me.(他向我說的最后的話縈繞在我的心頭。)This is the bar he used to haunt.(他過去常到這個(gè)酒吧來。)

　　【析句】句子的主體結(jié)構(gòu)是Australia's Northern Territory became the first legal authority。句首成分After six months of arguing and final 16 hours of hot parliamentary debates是作狀語的介詞詞組，動(dòng)詞不定式to allow doctors to take the lives of incurably ill patients who wish to die相當(dāng)于定語從句which allows doctors to take the lives of incurably ill patients who wish to die，修飾the first legal authority。

　　【講詞】to take the life of sb和to take sb’s life意思是“結(jié)束某人的生命”。A car bombing took the life of a 61-year-old man.(汽車炸彈奪去了一位61歲老頭的生命。)I didn’t understand how you could take the life of an innocent animal.(我不明白你怎么能殺死一個(gè)無辜的動(dòng)物。)

　　2. The full import may take a while to sink in. The NT Rights of the Terminally I’ll law has left physicians and citizens alike trying to deal with its moral and practical implications.

　　【譯文】充分理解這一法案的深刻意義可能需要一段時(shí)間。《澳北州晚期病****利法》實(shí)施以后，無論是內(nèi)科醫(yī)生還是普通市民同樣都在試圖把握法案的道德及實(shí)際意義。

　　【析句】第一句一個(gè)簡單句。第二句較為復(fù)雜，實(shí)際上這句話可以這么解釋：With the NT Rights of the Terminally I’ll law in place, physicians and citizens alike trying to deal with its moral and practical implications。我們可以把The NT Rights of the Terminally I’ll law理解成一種原因。

　　【講詞】deal with意為“安排;處理;涉及”。The book deals with this problem.(這本書論述了這個(gè)問題。)The teacher deals fairly with his pupils.(這個(gè)教師公平地對(duì)待他的學(xué)生。)How to deal with the fact that many students can not find jobs?(怎樣解決學(xué)生的就業(yè)問題?)

　　3. Some have breathed sighs of relief, others, including churches, right-to-life groups and the Australian Medical Association, bitterly attacked the bill and the haste of its passage. But the tide is unlikely to turn back.

　　【講詞】tide本意是“潮水，潮汐”，句中的含義是“趨勢，趨向”。turn the tide意為“使形勢轉(zhuǎn)變，改變局面”。We are going in the wrong direction and need the government to help turn the tide.(我們犯了方向性錯(cuò)誤，我們需要政府改變這一形勢。)
